Welcome to…
Back, about thirty years ago I came up with an idea for a radio show called, “What it’s Like to be Me,” where I would interview people with interesting jobs and stories. I told my brother about my great idea, and he told me about a brand-new radio show called, “This American Life,” where Ira Glass kind of did that very thing every week on NPR. So I quit working on that idea.
Years later, when I owned Elmer’s Store, I decided I wanted to do a live radio show from there once a week, with guests like Phil Nolan who runs the Ashfield Dump, talking about all the good stuff people had left there that week, stuff that others might want. We’d have performers, musicians, storytellers – kind of like a real, live version of “A Prairie Home Companion.”
I just never had time to do that.
Then, a little over a year ago, Buz Eisenberg asked me to be part of his radio show, The Afternoon Buzz, where I would have my own Wednesday segment called, “The Interesting Thing.”
And now! I have some exciting news in all directions! Read this, (in blue) and meet me at the bottom of it.

So first, I want to say, Congratulations Buz!!
When he told me about this new and exciting collaboration, he asked if my own schedule might line up with their new one, and, while it would when I wasn’t working on any particular projects, but when I work on festivals most meetings and such happen in the mornings, so I realized I wouldn’t be able to make the transition to morning radio.
Disappointed (because I really enjoyed doing the show!) I was talking about it to Tracy Keller, a longtime producer friend of mine and she said, “Let’s do a podcast!” And the next day she came back and said, “We’ll call it ‘Welcome to Nanlandia!’” because, in fact, it would be all the stuff I’ve always wanted to do, all the really weird and interesting stories and interviews I’ve always wanted to introduce alla y’all to, and all the rest of it!
So, we’re doing it!
Welcome to Nanlandia!!
We did our first interview a couple of days ago, and we are now in the process of getting the production together – the sound mixing, the music production part of it, all of the stuff that goes into a podcast beyond the interview and story-gathering itself.
We will launch it soon, and you know I will tell you ALL about it right here, every week!
Thank you so much, Buz, for getting me going on all of this, and I look very forward to introducing you to Nanlandia!
Stay absolutely tuned!
